Construction Controller



Responsible for the accounting operations of the Company. This includes the maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records in order to produce timely and accurate financial reports in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

Construction Controller Responsibilities:

  • Support the decision-making ability of the company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives in conjunction with corporate guidelines
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Assist in developing financial, risk management and tax strategies
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  • Assist in developing performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
  • Oversee project financial operations
  • Aid in the design and implementation of the company’s financial internal control systems in accordance with the internal control policies of the parent company organization
  • Implement accounting operational best practices
  • Participate in the Investment Committee for the Company
  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly;
  • Ensure payroll in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filling system
  • Aid in the development and implementation and maintenance of a system of controls over accounting transactions in accordance with the internal control policies of the parent company organization
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of Company operations
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Manage the production of the annual budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide for a system of management cost reports
  • Provide financial analysis as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations
  • Understand and mitigate elements of the company’s risk profile
  • Ensure that the company and its sub-tiers are complying with insurance coverages and requirements
  • Ensure that the record keeping meets the requirements of the Companies, auditors and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the Executive Management Team of the Company
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Arrange for intercompany financing when necessary to meet the capital requirements of the company
  • Supervises Accounting Manager, AP Manager & Project Accountants

Construction Controller Qualifications:

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a large-scale commercial builder and/or developer. Should have experience in partnering with an executive team and have a high level of written and oral communication skills.

Preference will be given to candidates:

Who have achieved the Certified Public Accountant designation; experience with Viewpoint Software and Spanish literacy
