Title: Construction Assistant Project Manager (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

The Assistant Project Manager provides a high level of support to his/her assigned Project Manager as well as other team members (or colleagues)The selected candidate will learn all the duties of a Project Manager, eventually acquiring the skills to become a Project Manager. These duties include assisting in the planning, scheduling, budgeting, overseeing and documentation of all aspects of specific projects, and interfacing with other departments.

This position requires a self-starter, not simply relying on being told what to do by the Project Manager, but taking responsibility for portions of projects, and ultimately for entire projects. The ideal candidate will have a construction-related bachelor’s degree or equivalent  experience in the field. Preferably experience in HVAC systems as well. 

The Assistant Project Manager reports to the Project Manager, who will provide training, direction, and feedback.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager in executing several key responsibilities and accountabilities, gradually gaining experience and expertise and taking them over completely. These include:

  • Coordinating internal resources and third parties/vendors.
  • Ensuring that assigned projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Ensuring resource availability and allocation.
  • Developing a detailed project plan to track progress.
  • Using appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs.
  • Measuring project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
  • Gathering and reviewing submittals.
  • Procuring all materials and labor necessary for each project.
  • Supervising technicians/helpers on projects.
  • Reporting problem(s)/question(s) to project management team.
  • Providing all project documentation (forms).
  • Creating shop drawings.
  • Preparing take-offs and ordering materials.
  • Confirming field measurements and verifications of proper installation.
  • Handling other duties as assigned.
